Yucatan: Mauricio Vila delivers 51 patrols in 27 municipalities

Jueves 20 de Abril de 2023

To continue strengthening security work in Yucatan, Governor Mauricio Vila Dosal delivered 51 police vehicles to 27 municipalities in the interior of the state, which already totals one thousand 296 units granted during the current administration.

Vila Dosal put at the service of the municipalities 30 pick-up trucks equipped with turrets, electronic sirens, exterior cameras, horn, roll bar and tumbaburros; as well as 21 motorcycles with siren and horn, equipment that adds to those delivered last January and where resources exceeding 30 million pesos were invested.

Highlighting that when there is a police presence, the commission of crimes is inhibited, Vila Dosal recalled that so far in his administration almost one thousand 300 vehicles have been delivered to the Ministry of Public Security (SSP) and the municipalities, in addition to transfer ambulances and fire trucks; And for this year 200 more patrol cars will be delivered to the police corporation.

Vila Dosal called on mayors to take care of and make good use of the new units, since it is the responsibility of the municipalities to preserve the safety of their inhabitants, meanwhile, the state police is to support them and assist them in cases that may exceed them.

Before elements of the Armed Forces and state and municipal police, he recalled that, today, the Yucatan police is the only one in the entire country that provides its elements with a salary above the national average, which this year increased by 10 percent; access to health services; Infonavit so that they can take out a home like any other worker; In addition, it offers scholarships of 100 percent enrollment and tuition to children of police officers who take the exam at any university in the state, whether public or private. It also supports students with 2,600 pesos bimonthly for their food and transportation expenses.

"Why do we do this? Because we want our elements to know that if they are honest and do their job, they will have the basic needs of their family solved and that they can see in their police career a way to grow family in the medium and long term because we are not interested in having police officers who last us a year or a year and a half,  We are interested in having police officers who last us 20, 30 years and who see that they can have good conditions in the Police," he said.

Vila Dosal recalled that, in 2018, when he began his administration, the budget of the Ministry of Public Security was one thousand 982 million pesos, which in four years has had an increase of 72 percent, going to 3 thousand 400 million pesos, additional to the Yucatan program that contemplated the acquisition of cameras to go from 2 thousand 200 to 7 thousand; the new Control, Command, Communications, Computing, Coordination and Intelligence Center (C5i), the boats and the helicopter for rescue work.

The head of the SSP, Luis Felipe Saidén Ojeda explained that of the thousand 294 vehicles delivered in this administration, 631 belong to the Ministry of Public Security and 663 to the municipalities between patrols and medical transport vehicles; that is why there is often the presence of both state, municipal and federal police in the 106 municipalities of Yucatan and on state highways.

On this occasion, he said, the municipalities of Conkal, Chemax, Chumayel, Espita, Hunucmá, Izamal, Kanasín, Maní, Maxcanú, Opichén, Oxkutzcab, Progreso, Río Lagartos, Tekal de Venegas, Tekax, Tetiz, Timucuy, Tinum, Tixméhuac, Tixkokob, Tizimín, Umán and Valladolid received equipment.

Saidén Ojeda recalled that there are one thousand 895 cameras working from the C5i to have greater security in their municipalities.

"You know that previously there were no cameras in the municipalities and today the governor's instruction was that the municipalities will have the video surveillance infrastructure to make them safer every day. It is the constitutional obligation of each municipality to guarantee the safety and heritage of its inhabitants, however, the state government has always provided security and support to the municipalities to guarantee the lives of all citizens who inhabit or visit our state," he concluded.

Nights of Kukulcán, a unique experience at the legendary Chichén Itzá

Visitors are invited to enjoy the nighttime spectacle at the foot of the El Castillo pyramid.

Before traveling back in time with a high-quality audiovisual projection, the imposing Temple of Kukulcán, in the heart of Chichén Itzá, welcomes visitors under the moonlight.

The carefully designed lighting of its structure allows for a detailed view of the staircases that culminate in the stone carving of the god who protects the ancestral heritage of the Maya.

This effort to bring the history, legends, and teachings of Mayan culture closer to the public in "Nights of Kukulkan" is the result of collaboration between the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and the State Government, through the Board of Trustees of Cultural and Tourist Service Units (Cultur). These partnerships facilitated the visit of 18,269 people to this nighttime spectacle in 2025.

For 30 minutes, the Castle recounts the splendor of the Itzaes' power, warrior leaders who transformed Chichen Itza into one of the most important political centers of the Mayan lands.

With an immersive narration, accompanied by professional music and sound, essential passages are shared to understand the role of Chichén Itzá in the Mayan cosmogony.

Thus, the participants are transported to another era, immersing themselves in the sacred cenote that holds all the secrets of a mystical age of reverence for the unknown.

After exploring the ancient city of the Itzá, walking among the Great Ballcourt, the Tzompantli platforms, the Eagles and Jaguars, Venus, the Jaguar Temple, and the Temple of the Warriors, the experience continues on the central esplanade, directly in front of one of the most accurate and astonishing stone calendars of the pre-Hispanic world of Mesoamerica: the Temple of Kukulcán.

It is in this place, under the watchful gaze of the stars, that an encounter with the past takes place, one that continues to define our present: Kukulcán descends from the summit of the pyramid erected in his honor, as a reminder of the grandeur of a living and present culture.

"Nights of Kukulkan" can be enjoyed from Wednesday to Sunday; the show begins at 7:00 p.m., and it is recommended to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for entry to the archaeological site.

Tickets can be purchased through the following link: https://nochesdekukulkan.com.mx/evento/1. On Sundays, there is a special price of 730 pesos for Mexican citizens, which corresponds to the INAH (National Institute of Anthropology and History) rate. This price is honored upon presentation of a valid official ID proving residency in Mexico.
